Bagtown

As Bagtown ‘Old Griffith’ was one of the main camps for workers building the channels for the Irrigation Scheme and resultant increased population, it is an integral part of our local history.

The Museum was fortunate to obtain Bicentennial grant funding in 1988 to construct an exhibit. Eight buildings that were supply and service shops and a part of ‘Old Griffith’s’ central business district have been recreated.

There are:

  • Hana’s Bakery
  • C. Funnell Hairdresser and Newsagent
  • Jacob’s General Store
  • Ada Cummings Ladies and Children’s Wear
  • Married Quarters
  • Post Office
  • Tango’s Bar
  • Methodist Minister’s Hut

There is a full-scale model inside the Post Office of the street of Bagtown.
